How to Play and Control Media via Bluetooth on Your BMW Motorcycle

In this video we show you, how to listen to and control audio files without taking your hands off the handle bars with your smartphone and the in-helmet-communication system connected to your BMW motorcycle. First pair phone and helmet with your motorcycle via Bluetooth. Our other how-to video shows how to do that. With an active Bluetooth connection you can control any media player on your smartphone using the Multi-Controller and the Menu button. Start the media player on your smartphone, select what you want to listen to and turn the volume all the way up before stowing away your phone. In the Menu view, go to “Media”. Your selected title is queued. Tilt the Multi-Controller right to play it. Turn the Multi-Controller to turn the volume up or down. Push the Menu button up to switch to player view, showing the artist and title. Tilt the Multi-Controller right to skip. Tilt left to restart the current title and left again to skip to the previous one. Press the Menu button down and tilt the Controller right to pause. Turning down the volume to “Mute” also pauses the player. Turning the volume up again continues play again. Playing Media with the Apple Music Player on a connected iPhone gives you even more options. Use the Multi-Controller in the Media Menu to select and enter „All artists“, „All albums“, „All titles“ and „Playlists“ from your Apple Music library. With „Now playing“ the currently selected playlist or album is displayed in a list. Turn and tilt the Multi-Controller to select and start a title.

  1. I have brand new F 900 GS + iPhone13 + Cardo Packtalk Slim.
I cannot control the volume, music is stuttering, iPhone is overheating. @bmw is there any chance to make it work as per your fantastic video.
Super frustrating, especially after reading bot generated answers by BMW above.
… just switched from KTM, starting to regret …

  2. Hmm, somewhat cheesed off that for iPhone there's additional support. What's stopping you from giving us proper media playback controls and options for Android? I spent enough money on my bike after all! I hope there'll be a TFT upgrade at some point. Or, even better, just open-source it (the non-safety critical stuff) and let the community implement it if BMW can't be arsed.

EDIT: Even worse, audio-volume changes are ONLY supported when using the BMW communicator setup. This information is hidden deep within the FAQ's. At best this is false advertising on the main websites of what the features and functionality are. Given the price-point of these bikes, this is pretty poor performance. Loving the bike overall, but not happy discovering these kinds of details.

  3. THESE SHOULD HAVE THESE MEDIA FEATURES FOR ANDROID TOO. DUE TO THE FACT THAT BMW HAS CUSTOMERS WHO USE ANDROID AND THEREFORE CANNOT HAVE A FULL EXPERIENCE WITH THEIR MOTORCYCLE AS IOS OFFERS. I THINK BMW SHOULD LINERATE THESE FUNCTIONS TO ANDROID TOO.

  4. I have r1250rs model 2021 and sena srl2 head set..Volume control does not work.. but friend have 2023 model F900R where it works so they have fixed this "problem" in 2023 models? I belive that every bmw up to 2021 or 2022 has a same software so volume control doesn't work any of these bikes as it is shown on the video. Also this connection system is very delicate how u start it. Rides helmet goes very easily passengers helmet in the bike so then u can't answer calls etc.. So i have to take BT off on the phone, start the bike first (ignition on), then helmet on and pair it to the bike, then phone.. If everything is on when u start to bike, is 50/50 chance that helmet is paired passengers helmet… Spotify works well and also i can listen netradio etc. But.. If srl2 is connected to phone directly, phonecalls are mess, i can't hear anything and the other can't also, only crackling..

  5. Having viewed the video again and read some of the comments it appears that your wonderful video does not truly represent the user experience. I have the sena SRL2 and I am told that all of the features in your video should work. However, there is no Volume control and it is hit and miss as to whether the media will actually load. I have had numerous conversations with my dealer and they just nod in agreement at the frustration we all have to suffer. It's a feature, You have a video. Why can't you just make it work 😞

  6. My 2023 S1000RR is stuck on updating, going to playlist on tft is just says updating and has said that for a week now but it never actually updates so can't choose song from my bike. For nearly £25K I spend on the bike I expect more.

  7. I have a 2021 F900XR which does everything you describe (pairing my Apple iPhone and selecting Apple Music). However, the volume adjustment with the Control Whee does not workl. I have tried it with two different headset models, one from Cardo and one from JBL. Neither can be controlled by the wheel. Any ideas why?

  8. Iphone 12 or 13 does not work on a 2021 BMW R1250GS I have tried, my dealer has tried ive had the latest software downloaded to the bike took almost 4 hours and still nothing, the only way to get this to work was to go and buy an Android phone and set all calls to divert to it it then works BUT still no volume control when using a senna headset
maybe these facts should be explained when buying the bike £22,000 for a bike that does not do what the advertising blerb shows it does, Very dissapointed in BMW to be honest
Check the loads of vidios on here with people having the same connectivity problems !!!

  9. Your TFT Media connectivity with Apple iPhone is an ugly, stinking, rotten joke. Persistent connectivity disconnections while riding. A glaring issue that has went unaddressed far too long. You should be embarrassed. A stain on your brand. Android…no problem whatsoever. I’m not alone in this opinion. I’m also a tenured wireless industry tech exec who knows a poor tech commitment when I see it.

  10. That's the way to enjoy music on a bike. Thus it is completely out of all reason why BMW still integrates the audio package into the RT and the K1600 models instead of using the space for more clever solutions. Blustering your music into the neighborhood is absolutely obsolete.
